This weeks prayer(s). You may like to say one of these when you go to bed tonight.

God, our loving parent,
help us to accept the love that is offered to us and to show it to others.
May we never be jealous, always grateful and ever-willing to share.
Amen.

Thank you, God,
for all your promises to us in the Bible.
When we read the Bible,
help us to listen to what you want us to hear.
Amen.

For all that has been, thanks.
For all that will be, yes!
Amen.

For the times when we meant to help somebody, but forgot:
we are sorry, Lord.
For the ways in which we have not shared good things with others:
we are sorry, Lord.
For the bad habits that we don't really try to give up:
we are sorry, Lord.
For the chances we miss to tell other people about Jesus:
we are sorry, Lord.
For the times when we forget to read our Bibles or say our prayers:
we are sorry, Lord.
We thank you, that even if we break our promises,
you never break your promise to forgive us if we are truly sorry.
Amen.

This weeks new story.....

Sarah leaves home

'Pyjamas, clothes, phone, mp3 – all sorted. Off I go!' Sarah mumbled as she stuffed everything in her rucksack. She pulled on her coat, crept downstairs, quietly opened the front door and slipped outside.
'That will teach them,' she said, as she set off down the road.

As she walked she texted her best friend, Emma.
'run away mum nagging 2 much. C u l8r. lol xxx'
Sarah walked into town and when she reached the shops she decided to get some food to keep her going.
She loaded up her basket, got to the till and … 'Aaaagh'.

The checkout lady gave her a very strange look, 'Everything OK love?'
'No, it's not,' Sarah replied through clenched teeth, 'I've forgotten my purse.'
She put the basket down and stomped out of the shop.
She texted Emma again
'goin home 4got money. Will tri l8a. Gr8! lol xxx'

As Sarah turned the corner into her street she saw her mum stood outside the house with the phone to her ear.
'It's OK, she's here' her mum shouted as Sarah got closer.
Then her mum ran towards her shouting,
'Where have you been? I've been out of my mind with worry. What do you …'

Then suddenly she stopped, looked at Sarah, walked quietly over to her and flung her arms round her.
'Come on inside again' she said. 'Let's see if we can sort this out. Hot chocolate?'
Sarah looked puzzled, then a smile started to creep across her face… 'with marshmallows please'.

Later Sarah texted Emma 'Bak home mum ok. lol xxx'

Prayer
Lord, you are a loving parent.
When we turn away, you stretch out your arms and welcome us home.
When we are angry, you open your arms and show your love.
When we are sad, you hold us in your arms and comfort us.
Lord, thank you for being our loving parent.
Amen.

This weeks prayer(s). You may like to say one of these when you go to bed tonight.

So we say, thank you, Lord, for Christmas,
for sending Jesus.
Thanks that he was kind and loving.
We would not have Christmas,
if he had said no to you.
What would we do
without Jesus, the Son of God?
So, we say, thank you, Lord, for Christmas,
for giving it to us.

Amen

(Try singing this to a well known Abba tune)

Your love is like a circle, Lord.
That means it's never ending.
That means it surrounds us.
That means it can spread out to include everyone.
That means I can stay inside your love, always. Wow.
Help me to recognise your love when I'm bad tempered, or feeling lonely or wondering what is happening.
Help me to look up, to look out and to see your love at work.
Amen

Lord, it's hard. It's hard to say 'stop' when someone is being bullied.
It's hard to say 'stop' when people are being unkind.
It's hard to say 'stop' when we see people being treated unfairly.
Help us, Lord, to say 'stop', to say 'no more', to stand up and be counted.
Amen.

We welcome lots of things at Christmas.
We welcome you, Jesus.
We welcome family who have driven a long way.
We welcome you, Jesus.
We welcome the gifts that people give us
we welcome you, Jesus.
We welcome good things on the TV
we welcome you, Jesus.
We welcome yummy food
we welcome you, Jesus.
We know that you, Lord, welcome us into your family
we welcome you, Jesus.
On this Christmas day
we welcome you, Jesus.
On all days
we welcome you, Jesus.
Amen.

This weeks new story.....

Peacemaker?
Todd and his team-mates sat in the changing room, waiting for Mr Lambert to come and tell them who was going to be captain. It was a big match. The final against St Swithin's, who had only lost two games this year.
'It's obvious,' said Jonno. 'He'll pick Kai. He's not just a good striker, but he's a fighter. That's what you need in a captain.'
Kai grinned, 'Too right mate. It's in the bag.'
Todd and his best friend Jack looked at each other. They knew that Jonno was probably right. Kai had been sent off twice this term for some pretty nasty tackles, but he did get results.
Kai started flicking Todd with a towel, grinning.
'Shame you'll never make captain, isn't it Toddy? You and Jack are both the same, too soft.'
Todd didn't actually want to be captain. He was happy doing what he liked best, playing football whenever he could, and being part of his team. But there was something about Kai that always managed to wind him up.
The towel caught him on the ear, and it really hurt. Todd lashed out at Kai, hitting him on the arm.
'Stop it, you two,' said Jack. 'We're all on the same side. It's the team that matters most, not who's captain. We can win this match if we just remember to focus and play as a team.'
'Spot on,' said Mr Lambert, standing in the doorway. 'That's why I've chosen Jack to be captain. He's never got a bad word to say about anyone, he's always fair, and most importantly, he's great at keeping the peace. I can't ask for more than that. So come on lads, let's get out there and win this match.'
Todd smiled, and everyone patted Jack on the back as they headed outside. They all knew it made sense. Even Kai.
